Adventure Training & Camping
Adventure Training
Adventure Training forms an essential part of the Air Cadet's training syllabus. As well as building new friendships, undertaking adventure training allows cadets to show off their leadership abilities.
There is a wide ranging Adventure Training syllabus in cadets - you could try your hand at anything from watersports to skiing!
On the Squadron
Parade night or weekend activities allow for another training opportunity. These activities can be on just about anything including NCO courses, orienteering exercises, long night exercises, camouflage and concealment and field craft.
River Crossing
A regular exercise during the summer months on 1216 Squadron is "the river crossing". Each time there will be a different scenario with different problems or time limits that the teams of cadets have to bare in mind whilst attempting to meet their objectives and stay dry!
St Martins Plain Exercise
Every year Eastleigh staff and cadets join staff and cadets from around the Wing at a week long "greens" camp in Kent. During the week the cadets undertake various activities from building shelters, learning how to camouflage and conceal themselves; to stripping and firing rifles. See more photos from SMP 2006 here.
Isle of Wight Camp
1216 Eastleigh Squadron is one of a "select' group of squadrons to attend the annual Isle of Wight Camp. The camp is intended to give the cadets at all levels from 2nd Class upwards an opportunity to attend a residential camp that concentrates on Adventurous Training activities from walking, water activities, wall climbing, swimming, orienteering and shooting.
Bearshead Challenge
Two teams from 1216 Eastleigh Squadron joined another 23 teams from squadrons afar a field as Kinloss, Penarth and Newbury at Swynnerton Training Camp, Staffordshire for the annual Bearshead Challenge on the 19-21 October. Teams competed against each other in a variety of activities over two days including, mountain biking, archery, orienteering, raft building, kayaking, egg catapults and mountain walking. This year the teams from Eastleigh came a VERY respectful 7th and 4th place overall, a massive improvement on last years 16th - very well done to both teams!
